Are you considered part of the US Air Force once you graduate the academy?
Do they go through basic training like other people who join the military?
I’m also curious as to the purpose of the academy.

Can someone please help me find the information to this question:
What leading military academy did Edgar Allan Poe attened? (Also, did he graduate – why or why not)
I know that he attended the US military academy. But I just dont know if he graduated or not – and why.
The only resource i was given is this:

it talks about the military academy in the 3rd paragraph… but it also mentions another school he went to in the 2nd paragraph.

“Poe moved to Baltimore, Maryland to stay with his widowed aunt, Maria Clemm, her daughter, Poe’s first cousin, Virginia Eliza Clemm, and his brother Henry. In 1829, Poe’s foster mother, Frances Allan, died. As was his foster mother’s dying wish, John Allan reconciled with his foster son, and began coordinating an appointment for him to the United States Military Academy at West Point. Meanwhile, Poe published his second book, Al Aaraaf Tamerlane and Minor Poems in Baltimore in 1829.
Poe traveled to West Point, and took his oath on July 1, 1830. John Allan married a second time. The marriage, and bitter quarrels with Poe over the children born to Allan out of affairs, led to the foster father finally disowning Poe. Poe decided to leave West Point, and went on strike, refusing to attend formations, classes, or church. He was court-martialed for disobedience. He left for New York in February 1831…”

For those who do not know what this is, it is a school available in many states for teens that offers a second chance. Although I am sure it is with the hope that the child will join the military, they are not required to. ANY ONE that has been through or knows some one that has been there who could share some thoughts – it would mean a lot to me. Was it hard to get in?

West Point is the US Military Academy, where the US Army trains officers. The USMA website does not list any other notable graduates from that year,

i have green card but i am not citizen yet but i want to join the academy badly but i am about to pass the age limit they set (i am 21 ) can you give me advise on this to get citizen ship quickly
if i join the military will it help and also if i get the citizen ship quickly can i leave army

The 3 service academies I am asking about include West Point (Army), Annapolis (Navy), and the Air Force Academy, not the U.S. Coast Guard or Merchant Marine Academies.
These US Service Academies are highly selective and are set up to train future leaders of the US’s military defense forces. But the academies also allow graduates a certain level of discretion over their immediate assignments coming out of graduation from each academy as they take their required commission (typically 5 years of active duty and in some cases, a limited amount of reserve duty thereafter).
Are they sent straight into war, e.g. to Iraq or Afghanistan? Or are they given choices for deployment elsewhere?

I want to attend either the US Naval Academy or West Point, but I have a heart condition called Mitral Valve Insufficiency (AKA- Regurgitation)- it says to be accepted you cant have valve problems..However, the cardiologist said I am fine and can play sports and stuff. Do you think I will be allowed in?

Why is entry to the Naval Academy so archaic?

I’m always curious about how other militaries of the world do things, so my usage of the Wikipedia eventually led me to the page about the US Naval Academy.
What’s the deal with politicians being able to appoint people for entry into the Naval Academy? I realise you don’t need to be chums with anyone important to get it, but it certainly doesn’t seem to rule out the possibility of a senator appointing his friend’s son over other, more suitable and qualified candidates. Or am I wrong anywhere? Are there any merits to this antiquated system?
